Maltwood & Gray Funds

The Society has two funds for promoting archaeology and history.  Applications for these funds are accepted twice a year, for up to about £2000, to support research and to improve public access to the history, archaeology and natural sciences of the historic County of Somerset. Important Guidelines that apply to both funds are available here. If they do not seem to meet your requirements, it may be possible to meet them from other sources, so please do enquire.

Fill in the appropriate application form and submit by 31 August or 31 January for consideration by the appropriate awarding committee in the following September/October or March/April. Electronic applications will only be accepted for the Gray and Maltwood Funds.

Please note, the Society does not provide bursaries to support private study but does provide grants to individuals as well as organisations.

The Maltwood Fund

The Maltwood Fund is dedicated to support high quality research into the archaeology and history of Somerset. Research that will forward the priorities agreed in the South West Archaeology Research Framework (SWARF) will be particularly welcome. Click here for a copy of the SWARF document.

The Gray Fund

The Gray Fund is dedicated to promoting activities that encourage public understanding, interest and participation in archaeology and history. Applications to support training schemes and activities involving young people are particularly welcome.
