Discovering the Wildlife of Churches at Nettlecombe Churchyard with SANHS Natural History

May 31 @ 10:00 - 16:00

part of the Exmoor Society’s Big Nature Day
Sunday 31st May 2026 10am – 4pm
(Timing of SANHS’ launch event to be announced).

Churches and Churchyards are known to be some of the most important building and open spaces in many of our towns and villages. They are also of great importance for their wildlife, often the churchyard supports a wide range of birds, wild flowers, lichens, fungi, insects, reptiles and mammals.

Become part of this exciting two-year project by SANHS, to discover more about the wildlife of Somerset’s wonderful churchyards. In most towns and villages, the parish churchyard is one of the most important areas for wildflowers, lichen, insects and other wildlife in the area.

The project is to be launched at Exmoor Society’s Big Nature Day at Nettlecombe on 31st May.

On the day there will also be a self-guided churchyard wildlife tour, a children’s quiz sheet, a display, and guided walks.
Suitable for families – help from experts on hand.

Click HERE for details of the whole Big Nature Day.
There is no need to book with SANHS for this event, just turn up.

(We hope SANHS’ contribution will have been added to Exmoor Society’s website by the time of the event!)
Please note: entrance to the festival is £10 per car, payable to Exmoor Society, not to SANHS.
